The one question I get from most of my followers and friends is, how do we repair and protect our damaged hair. Dealing with damaged hair or general hair problems and not being able to find the products that really help, is definitely a major concern for most of us. It used to be one of my major concerns too, but not now anymore because I started trying to understand the needs of my hair, instead of worrying and ending up in stress which again causes hair problems – A feedback loop in which most of us end up landing! Click here to find the blog post about my haircare routine. And in my hair care journey towards finding the right products that actually help, here I land with another amazing product range from “Olaplex”.
A lot of you might have already heard about the brand, and some of you might have not. It has been a household product for many of the salon pro’s and the most hyped hair care product in the virtual world. I first heard of the Olaplex through one of my favorite beauty bloggers but I never really got a chance to try it until recent. It is indeed an expensive product and I was just waiting for my current shampoo & conditioner to finish before I invest in another. After a lot of research online, I finally got my hands on this during the Sephora VIB Sale in early May. I have been using it for more than a month a now, so I decided to consolidate all my research and also add my personal take on this product through this blogpost.
According to their website, their products can protect, repair and strengthen out hair at the bond level using the 3-step process. The Olaplex Range comes with numbers N1 through N6, but N1 (Bond Multiplier) and N2 (Bond Perfector) are only retailed to Salons for use by the professionals. When they mean the three-step process, they talk about N1, N2 and N3 (Hair Perfector).
If you have extremely color damaged / thermo damaged hair, with breakage that’s not easily repairable then the Olaplex 3-step process is specially for you. There are a lot of Salons and Stylists that work specifically with the Olaplex range to help you with the process. Also if you are planning to color your hair and are worried about the damage the coloring process might cause, there’s a good news for you cause this 3-step process can also be added during the coloring process which helps protect your hair from the damage 🙂 Wonderful isn’t it? Now on to the details:
N1 : BEGINNING THE REBUILDING
This concentrated first salon step rebuilds broken disulfide bonds and begins the process of preventing damage and repairing hair. This product can be mixed with a hair lightener, color or any other chemical process to add that extra layer of protection.
N2 : PURSUING HAIR PERFECTION
The second salon step continues to rebuild and restore any remaining broken bonds ensuring the strongest, shiniest, and healthiest hair possible. This goes after the lightener/ the color has been rinsed from your hair.
N3 : REPAIR, PROTECT, AND STRENGTHEN.
No.3 is not a conditioner, it’s an at-home treatment that reduces breakage and visibly strengthens hair, improving its look and feel. You can apply this product for a minimum of 30 minutes before shampooing your hair every week, as it acts like the deep conditioning treatment. For more better results, you can also leave it overnight, the night before you shampoo you hair. Of the 3-step process, N3 is the only product that is retailed to customers directly and N1 & N2 are only meant for Professional use.
N4 : BOND MAINTENANCE SHAMPOO
It is the gentle cleanser from the same range. I have long hair falling till my upper waist, and the first amazing thing about this Shampoo was a palm sized product (almost 2 coin sized amounts) was enough to completely rinse my hair. It’s consistency is real thick, and it lathers really really well! I usually feel my hair normal to dry when shampooing and a lot smoother while rinsing the conditioner off, but with this one I can feel my hair smoother right from rinsing the shampoo.
N5 : BOND MAINTENANCE CONDITIONER
The consistency of this product is thick like every other conditioner, and similar to the shampoo a palm sized amount works for my complete hair. I usually use about 2 palm sized amount with my old conditioner, and I get soft and smooth hair for the half the amount with this new one 🙂 My hair is definitely smoother, even after it is dry and it remains smoother through out the week. My roots don’t get very oily, but of course I do see some natural oils by day 4 and I use my dry shampoo to refresh my scalp and I’m good through out the week 🙂
Although I have never really tried the N1 and N2 personally, I have tried and experimented with their N3 (Hair Perfector), N4 (Shampoo) and N5(Conditioner). And I was impressed with the results from the first use, that I did not even look back to my previous shampoo and conditioner. I could definitely say that The Olaplex range is my absolute favorite and I would personally rate it No 1 of all the shampoos & conditioners I have used till date. This was the super hyped product, so I have used it in multiple variations to test it out completely, like a week with N3 left for 30 minutes, a week replacing N3 with coconut oil, and two weeks with N3 used over night. My hair felt it’s best when I used N3 overnight, and the coconut oil addition was to test if the shampoo can cleanse my hair and lather well, the same way even with oil in it. And yes this range passed all my tests and I’m extremely happy with the results.
So if you are someone who is in search for new products that really work to help repair your hair, I would say this is a good investment. The products are a little expensive as each of them cost $28 each. But trust me, they are worth it, both with the results and they are also gonna last you longer. I have been using it for 4 weeks now and I have probably finished 1/4th of the amount. A little product goes a long way and gives you the best results. They also have the mini versions for the Shampoo and Conditioner, if you would like to test them first. In the US and many other counties, you can get them online at Sephora or from the Olaplex site directly. These products are also available India, as most of my readers from India might wonder if they are.
I hope you find this review helpful and let me know if your thoughts if you get your hands on it. If there are any other specific concerns or products that you would want me to talk about, you can always leave your requests in the comments below. See you guys soon with a new post 🙂 Till the XOXO
