Traditional Trends: Drape Your Saree as Lehenga

Hi There! Time for a new post and I’m back with a very special attire. Saree is the most special Ethnic Indian wear which most of the women carry and this post is very special to me as Saree is one of my favourite outfits. Saree is a very feminine outfit, which when draped well brings a magical spark. Every state in India has a different draping style representing the regional traditions. However it is draped, it turns out to be one of the sensual outfits ever worn.

Most of us prefer wearing Sarees while attending family gatherings, Marriages and any special or traditional occasions as it has got that traditional vibes and how many different outfits might come in the way, there is no such outfit which can replace a Saree. However beautiful this six yard garment might be, all the magic lies in the draping hands. We can make our Saree look special, by draping it in different styles and in today’s post I came with a idea of draping a Saree as a Lehenga.

This is one of the trickiest ways to drape a saree. Instead of adding the pleats altogether in the centre (front) we start from the right corner of our waist making small and closer pleats all the way to the left so we get that Lehenga kind of look all over the front. Make sure to leave the required length of saree for you pallu. Then make small pleats for the Pallu, like you usually do for your saree. Because of the way we have the pleats around our waist, you should leave some length of the saree on the left so you can tuck it in diagonally as we tuck in our Choli (or voni). You can adjust your pleats accordingly, until you see a Half-Saree or Lehenga kind of look. Once you have that, you can start securing the saree with safety pins.

I tried this draping style on this pink Georgette Saree and I think it turned out really good. The leaf shaped motifs on the saree gave it the real Lehenga kind of vibes. This look might look a lot more clear and better if you try with a half and half saree. I was looking for sarees online and encountered this facebook page via the group Shoppers Stop for Girls . It was so sweet of them that they helped me in taking care of everything, from getting the saree, stitching the blouse and sending it back to me. The saree and blouse was a perfect fit and I would definitely recommend checking out their page, if you are looking for saree online like me 🙂

I added some Indian Jewellery to it to enhance the tradional vibes this look has and also a simple waist band which secures the drape and also makes it look more like a real Lehenga. I happened to have the right shade of lipstick matching my Saree and that completes my look.

Most of the women have a common complaint about carrying the Saree and walking with it for a long time. You might not have that complaint with this draping style. Any for any draping style, make sure to leave a comfortable space while wrapping the saree so that you can walk with ease and also choose the right pair of sandals for your saree to add comfort.

After moving to US, I rarely get some occasions to wear a saree and I felt really happy carrying this saree after a really long time. Let me know how you like the look and what’s your favourite draping style?

You look so good in a Saree! The pink match really well indeed but you can wear it any of the colors on the saree I think. Kanjivaram Silks
