A sneak peek to Korean Skin Care || Niharika

Hi there!

We all have one thing in common, which ever age group we might fall under, we always want our skin to look great. A flawless skin is something every woman dreams about, do you agree with me?
Koreans are serious about their skin care. They also know what they want – innovation, gentle ingredients, pleasing packaging and they definitely don’t want to pay a fortune for it” says Charlotte Cho, founder of a online store that has all the amazing Korean beauty products. I think you guys understand what the current blog post is about 🙂

We are gonna talk about the basic Korean skin care in our blog post. A lot of us would have probably heard about those products and some of us might not. So this is our trial to introduce you guys to the Korean Skin Care routine. I have my friend Niharika, who is using these products since two years , she says she has discovered a lot of fun with it and all the post credits go to her. Lets quickly jump into our post 🙂

Koreans are known for their glowing skin and their skin care routine is a bit more extensive than what you’re probably not used to. This involves 10 steps or more than that, which can seem daunting at first, but lets make it simpler and clear so this fits your needs.

#1 Unique Origination
Korean women typically use oil, foam, gel and cream based cleansers. The first mistake everyone of us usually does is not choosing the right cleanser that fits your skin type and then complaining about it. Here are the things to know before picking up the cleansers:

Oil Based Cleansers – They are usually used for makeup removal as they can remove your makeup without tugging your skin. They can effortlessly remove even your last bit of mascara and they can be used by any skin type.

Cream Based Cleansers – These are for those whose skin has dry patches and breakdowns due to more dryness. These work really good in hydrating your skin and reduce the patchy feel.

Water Based Cleansers – These are available in two categories:
Foam Based Cleansers – If your skin is prone to acne, then these are the ones you should look for. They can keep your skin soft and remove excess oil without leaving your skin dry. They can be used by both oily and normal skin types.
Gel Based Cleansers – These are something you can opt if you have a combination skin. These help remove the excess oil from your T-zones and at the same time moisturises your cheek zone.

#2 Toners

Toners prepare your skin to balance the PH levels and skin’s moisture. They also help in removing the impurities and dirt which are left behind even after cleansing.
Tip: Try to avoid alcohol-based cleansers as they can be harsh on your skin.

#3 Essence

Formulated with changing thickness or viscosities, Essences tend to be more fluid and are less concentrated than serums. They add extra hydration and penetrates at deeper level of your skins. Helps other products to absorb well into your skin. They are traditionally used after toner.

#4 Ampoules and Serums

Serum is more like a skin treatment that is concentrated solution and designed to sync into your skin right before your moisturizer and is very effective as it has anti-aging or hydrating properties. With the water based formula, these products quickly absorbs into your skin and lock it with a moisture.

Ampoules is essentially what we call is serum on steroids and is super, super concentrated and is used as a boost for your skin routine. You can use them as a kick start for a skin care routine of two or three week program. They help to soften your skin and is versatile, can be used as a treatment.

#5 Moisturiser

Moisturisers are also available in a wide range based on the skin types. They are mainly used to lock the lock the ingredients of the previous products if used in the same specific order. They help your skin look younger and brighter 🙂

#6 Shield

This is the most essential part of all your steps. SUNSCREEEMMM!!! Yes its the sunscreen, which protects your skin from the harmful UV rays. So complete your skin care regime with a good sunscreen, to avoid excessive tanning, breakage and aging.

#7 Exfoliators

Exfoliator is a must and should for all skin types and should be used for 2-3 times a week because this helps your skin to eliminate all the dead skin and dirt makes the product to penetrate deep into your skin.

#8 Sheet Masks

Sheet masks are recently more trending and they boost your skin and helps to brighten and add moisture it. Koreans believe that using sheet masks completes your skin needs like whitening, soothing, brightening, firming, anti-aging, boosting, nutrition, elasticity etc. when used 1- 3 times a week. They are also easy to use and help saving a lot of your time.

Koreans put these sheet masks on and go to sleep (I’m sure most of you must have watched in K-dramas).

#9 Sleeping Masks

Sleeping masks are more beneficial as your skin absorbs the product overnight. They have all the active ingredients because of which your skin feels fresh and they also help to tighten the pores. I would say this is a additional and effective treatment for your skin.

#10 Eye Creams

Last but not the least it is important to make sure you take good care of your eye area, as it is delicate and that is indeed the first place to show your signs of ageing. And apart from that, if you have dull or dark skin around your eyes, you entire face tends to look dull and tired. So always make sure to take good care of your eyes. Get good sleep to avoid puffy eyes and use good eye creams to reduce the dar spots and dullness 🙂

All these products look Maravilloso! Thank you Niha for sharing the basic skin care products available and also the details on how to include them in our skin care routine. We will keep posting reviews about more Korean beauty products in our future posts. So stay tuned!! Till then have a happy week 🙂

I have been interested in Korean skin care regimen for long. I knew they used rice water but haven't been able to figure out a way to make it at home. Now that I know that it's an unmissable part of their regimen, I HAVE to come up with it :)Thanks for penning this write-up.
