My Hair CareRoutine and Styling Tips

Hey everyone! Hows it going? I got a lot of requests to share my hair care routine and styling tips. So I thought of writing a blogpost for the same. First of all let me give you a quick intro about my hair type before I jump into my hair care routine. I have a voluminous naturally curly hair of type 3A (click here to find out your hair type) with a normal scalp. Coming to my hair concerns I have light hair fall and my hair is frizzy by nature. So I was this girl who used to hate my hair for it being curly and always wanted straight/silky hair. Later on, when I realized the beauty of curly hair, I have started  taking good care of it and styling it accordingly.
I am going to list out the steps in my hair care routine along with the products I use currently and I will share the details about the hair styling tools I use.

Step 1: Hair Oil
I usually apply hair oil the night before I plan to wash my hair. I have been trying hard to grow the length of my hair, so I apply a (warm) mixture of coconut oil and castor oil to my hair. During winters as we usually tend to get some dandruff, I add one or two drops of Tea Tree Oil to the mixture. Once I'm done with oiling, I tilt my head upside down and give a gentle massage for 4-5 minutes. This helps to improve the blood circulation and hence boosts your hair growth.
You can also use the Johnson's Baby Vitamin E body oil, on the ends of your hair. It works wonders in reducing the frizz and making your hair smooth and shiny. Make sure you do not apply it on your scalp, because it will cause very bad hairfall.

Step 2:Shampoo and Conditioner
My hair is color treated and I have been using the hair styling tools more often recently, so I use a Keratin based shampoo. And since my hair is frizzy, I use a coconut milk based conditioner. I use the Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy shampoo and Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk conditioner. This combination has worked well for my hair and I have been using these products since a year now. Even if I have to switch shampoos I prefer choosing the Keratin/coconut based products.

Step 3: Hair Mask
When my hair becomes super frizzy or feels like its more damaged, I use the Wella SP Luxe Oil Keratin Restore Mask. I leave it on for an hour and then wash it off. It instantly makes my hair feel soft and smooth. And if I get a lot of time over the weekend I try to apply the hair mask using egg white and curd. Even that helps in softening my hair.

Step 4: Heat Protectant Spray
I use a hair dryer to dry only my scalp (if not I tend to catch cold easily) but not my hair, and like I have mentioned I also use some styling tools which can damage my hair, so I use the Tony & Guy Prep Heat Protectant Mist. It is light in weight, the bottle is easy to use and works great for my hair.

Step 5: Hair Serum
Hair serums instantly transform our dull hair to smooth, silky and stunning hair adding a lot of shine to it. Since I have a voluminous curly and frizzy hair, it is not so easy for me to detangle my hair. Back in India, I have used Livon as my hair serum. Recently, I have started using this amazing argan oil based serum, Moroccan Oil Treatment which actually works wonders. This has been a life saver for me and also the secret behind my gorgeous looking hair.

I use this product on wet hair, to detangle my hair (using a wide tooth comb) and I also use it on my dry hair as a finishing product. I use a coin-sized amount twice for my long and voluminous hair, but if you have fine/short hair I think a small amount will work fine. Even a large amount of the product may make your hair look super fine, so just use the right amount.

Step 6: Styling
I usually style my hair using tools when I shoot for the blog or if I am going for any special occasions. I use a Remington Wet 2 Straight 2" straightener for my voluminous hair and it has been very handy for me as I can use it on both damp and dry hair. I use it on my damp , tangle free hair and straighten it all over, finish off by applying the Moroccan Oil Treatment for a straight hair look.
If I am planning for a curly hair look (which I usually do), I use curling wand on my straightened hair. I prefer loose curls, so I use the Ion - Magnesium Curling Iron with 1" curling wand. This one heats up quickly, gives you the perfect frizz free curls which last longer.

Along with the above hair care steps, I also try to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I try to eat healthy (consume good amount of protiens in my diet), get the right amount of sleep and workout at least for 5 days a week. If you are having a unbalanced lifestyle, what ever products you may use cannot guarantee you the best results. So my advice for a beautiful hair is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and also use the right products that work your hair.
